A New Competitor in the Market for Clubhouse, Spotify Greenroom


The clubhouse is the 16th very popular app in the App Store’s “Social Media Network” segment, trailing Facebook, Messenger, Discord, WhatsApp, and other established social networks.

Clubhouse was downloaded 2.3 million times in January 2021 alone, according to Fortune.

And, according to Appfigures statistics, 30 percent of all Clubhouse installs have occurred as of January 28th. As per the Exploding Topics data, search queries for “clubhouse app” is increased twofold during the last six months.

Reportedly, Clubhouse is present in 154 countries (the iOS App Store version runs in 175 countries).

As well as the app is gaining popularity beyond North America. In essence, Clubhouse is by far the top most downloaded app in Germany, Japan, Slovakia, and Turkey right now.

In China, Clubhouse is growing too fast, and the invite codes are selling for 188 yuan ($29). As per the data, it has been installed 160,000 times from China’s App Store. However, as of mid-February 2021, the app does not appear to exist in China.

Clubhouse raised an undisclosed amount in a Series B round from Andreessen Horowitz and others in January 2021.

Clubhouse’s holding company, Alpha Exploration Co., was valued at more than $1 billion in funding round. To put this in context, Clubhouse was previously valued at $100 million in May 2020.

Given the popularity of the clubhouse app, several apps with features like it have been launched, and the next name is Spotify Greenroom. Live Audio Rooms app Spotify Greenroom has been launched on both iOS and Android platforms. Tell me, Spotify took ownership of the locker app designed by Betty Labs in March, and it has been redesigned and launched in a new avatar.

Spotify Greenroom App

The Spotify Greenroom app is largely similar to The Spotify Live Audio Rooms on which users can connect and listen to the artist. The app is, of course, based on the locker room, but Spotify has replaced its white-reddish orange color scheme with its signature green color. This app will allow Spotify users from all over the world to host and join live audio rooms. An interaction on it can be converted into live podcasts or conversions.

Users can talk about different topics

The interface of the Spotify Greenhouse app is similar to that of a clubhouse. The app provides users with a lot of topics like NBA, comedy, music, and entertainment so that they can choose to their liking and be a part of the rooms. The app will also provide users with sports-related rooms with the full focus of the locker room app. Spotify has clarified that existing locker room users will see their app in a new design and get updates.

Better audio experience

Spotify said in a statement before launching its new greenroom app that existing locker room users will get a better experience. “With greenroom offerings, users will get a chance to connect with creators and artists and can expect a great live audio experience,” the company said. Spotify has also announced a creator fund that will allow the new live audio app to hear more content shortly.

Users can install the Spotify Greenroom app by visiting the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Users whose Spotify account is already active can become part of the app with the help of existing login details. The audio streaming app has said that users will be able to use the new app even without a Spotify account. To do this, they will have to sign up for free after downloading the app. By making this arrangement, Spotify is promoting Greenroom as an independent platform, if you are not using Spotify, you can still join Greenroom, and it will indirectly advertise Spotify as a brand.

Start and host rooms

After logging in to the app, you can start a new room by tapping the ‘Create Room’ button at the bottom of the homepage.

You will then get the option of inviting other users or picking groups before going live.

If you have followed someone, you will be notified to start a room on his behalf. This app has been launched in more than 135 markets.

So, now Spotify is all set to attract the audience with its new app and also going to compete with Clubhouse. Let’s see how many users are attracted to this new app.
